Joseph Henri Maurice “The Rocket” Richard (August 4, 1921 - May 27, 2000) raised the bar in the NHL when he joined the struggling Montreal Canadiens in 1942 with his intimidating playing style highlighted by his scoring touch, blazing speed, artful stickhandling ability and unmatched passion for winning.
Maurice Richard was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961, after the mandatory three-year waiting period was waved.
